I'm Amina Green. I previously worked as an idol in Japan under the name aminyan or Amina du Jean. I'm currently a content creator and technologist living in San Francisco, California.
At eleven years old, in 2008, I began taking private Japanese lessons in my small Michigan town.
From there I started streaming on Nico Nico Douga, Japan's proto-Twitch. In the same period I produced a chiptune album with Piko Piko Detroit, a local chiptune collective, and as a high schooler performed at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and on smaller stages around Ann Arbor.
I received a contract to perform as an idol in Japan, and appeared on the prime-time variety show 「YOUは何しに日本へ？」.
I appeared on other television programs and worked with companies including Bandai Namco. I received an award in Kodansha's Miss iD 2016, and was profiled in Forbes online, Playboy Japan and The Japan Times.
Alongside this I studied Economics at Temple University, Japan.
I lived in London and studied anthropology and sociology, finishing an undergraduate dissertation on Eastern European women and labor.
I served on the board of TAMPEP, an Open Society funded organization, which led to speaking at Amnesty International and at an EU parliamentary meeting in 2018. My last major activism event was in Stockholm in 2019.
I worked for a non-profit in San Francisco and moved into industry, teaching myself Python on nights and weekends.
I completed a Master's in Computer Science and Human-Computer Interaction, with research on biosensing-enabled agents and empathic computing.
I worked as Head of Data at a venture-backed creator economy startup, and on research into bridging bots at the Plurality Institute.
I'm a Frame Fellow, embedded at Machine Alignment, Transparency, and Security (MATS), leading AI safety content production — and producing content on Instagram and X.
Living a good life by treating the people immediately around me well is the most important thing to me. Living with a sense of integrity and being joyful is the best way to give back, in my opinion.
As an undergraduate and through my early 20s, my academic studies, dissertation and work went to the labor rights of migrant women, particularly from Eastern Europe and the Global South. I don't work in that world day to day any more, but it taught me what I still believe: that people are best protected by the people around them.
Growing up around Detroit in the middle of de-industrialization, then working in labor rights and studying anthropology and sociology, left me alert to what technology does to social infrastructure. It's why I work on AI safety now. I'm a capitalist, but I believe in public policy that lets people flourish under capitalism — humane, and clear about where responsibility sits.
So what I care about now is building communities, strong interpersonal relationships and empowering others to do the same. I've recently begun a project called kanpai, where community stewards can be connected with corporate sponsors and individual patrons. Join the waitlist @ kanpai.events
